About Regan Kwong
Spartan. Educator. Family. Friend. World Traveler.
Go Green! Go White! I am a Spartan for life!
I am a proud graduate of Michigan State University (MSU). In 2012, received my Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in Economics from MSU. In 2013, I completed my full-year student teaching and received my teaching certificate from MSU with endorsements for Economics (CA), History (CC), and Social Studies (RX). In 2016, I continued my education by applying to Michigan State University's Master's in Educational Technology program and completed the program in 2017.
My experiences through MSU have provided me with great opportunities to connect with other educators. It has also given me the knowledge and skills to be a confident educator. I use all that I have learned everyday to guide my students to success and explore my many roles as an educator. |
It's always about the students. I am an educator!
Ever since high school, my goal was to become a social studies teacher. I have been blessed to have amazing teachers, professors, mentors and instructors. They inspire me to try to help others they way they have helped me. Their hard work has allowed me to become a teacher myself. I currently teach 9th Grade U.S. History and AP U.S. History. In the past I have taught 10th grade Civics and Economics and 12th grade Street Law. I have also previously taught middle school Computer Skills, 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, and 9th grade Personal Finance.
As an educator, my goal is to help my students develop the 21st century critical thinking skills necessary to be successful in our modern society and to help them become life long learners. As a social studies teacher, my goal is to help my students understand the world around them and help guide them to make a positive impact in their community. It is vital that I equip my students with the skills to understand the importance of other people's perspectives, cultures, and experiences.
I find that one of the best ways to help guide my students to understanding how to create a positive impact in their community is to show them that I care about their perspectives, cultures, and experiences. To help role model for my students how to be a positive community member, my role as a teacher extends past my time with my students in the classroom. I enjoy cheering on my students at their sports games. Ever since I started teaching, I have been an after-school tutor to give additional assistance to students who need more help. I have previously been one of the coaches for Riverside Academy's Model United Nations team and have taken the team to Kalamazoo, Michigan to participate at the Mid-American Global Education Council (MAMUN). I also had a one year stint as a coach for the Riverside Academy robotics team. I have also previously been a National Honors Society advisor when I was a teacher at Crescent Academy.

I love traveling around the world with family and friends!
Outside of the classroom, I love spending time with my family and friends. My family and friends have been vital in giving me encouragement, support, and love through all of my endeavors in life. My favorite thing to do is spend my free time traveling with my family and my friends. Each year, I try to take an extended trip with my family and friends to visit places that we have never been to before. My travels with my family and friends allow me to experience the world from new perspectives. Traveling around the world has blessed me with many opportunities to further my historical knowledge and develop an understanding of historical events from the perspective of the local destination. I'm always looking forward to experiencing new cultures and spending more time relaxing with my loved ones!
